Can you make a replacement car key when all keys are lost?
In most cases yes. The process for adding keys to a vehicle varies between the various makes and model of vehicle. Some have no issues whether adding a key when you have a working key or all keys lost but others it becomes very difficult or impossible to do. This is why we always recommend that you have a spare key for your car or van. Ideally you do not want to let yourself get in an all keys lost situation. Apart from the difficulties posed on some makes and model of vehicles, the cost to carry out the work is more than it is when adding a spare key when you have a working key. The reason for this is that we have to first pick the door lock or ignition, decode the lock, then use this code to make a working key blade. Once we have this we can then start the process for programming in the new key. With some cars, we also need to remove the immobiliser and read data from the chip to carry out the new key matching process. So with the extra labour involved, replacement car keys when in an all keys lost situation are always more expensive than a replacement key when you have a working key.
